threads that bind us | Fish Hoek - Cape Town | Textiles & Prints

Drawing with thread - Textile Artwork by Emma and Leila Rowett.

threads that bind us creates perfectly imperfect home decor that is handmade by South African sisters, Emma & Leila Rowett.

Inspired by the Cape’s natural beauty, they have created a range of unique, timeless soft furnishings.

Their designs are hand drawn and then stitched using free-motion embroidery, which gives the feeling of "drawing with thread".

This freehand machine embroidery technique used to “draw” with thread means that each product is one of a kind.

Inspired by Nature

The products are all embroidered with motifs that take inspiration from the protea and fynbos family predominantly, but you will notice a few landscapes popping up, as well as figures.

Custom Embroidery

They also offer a bespoke service — if they can draw it, they can stitch it!
