You’ve probably seen her iconic tea towels, aprons, purses, and shoppers — featuring African proverbs or Mandela quotes — in airport stores and other well-known craft shops across the country. Artistic Practice Beyond commercial products, she also creates vibrant textile art panels and prints linocuts on paper, showcasing her strong illustrative and design sensibilities. threads that bind us | Fish Hoek - Cape Town | Textiles & Prints

Image
threads that bind us creates perfectly imperfect home decor that is handmade by South African sisters, Emma & Leila Rowett. Inspired by the Cape’s natural beauty, they have created a range of unique, timeless soft furnishings. Their designs are hand drawn and then stitched using free-motion embroidery, which gives the feeling of "drawing with thread". This freehand machine embroidery technique used to “draw” with thread means that each product is one of a kind. Inspired by Nature The products are all embroidered with motifs that take inspiration from the protea and fynbos family predominantly, but you will notice a few landscapes popping up, as well as figures. Custom Embroidery They also offer a bespoke service — if they can draw it, they can stitch it! Follow Their Work 📸 Instagram: @threadsthatbindus Website: threads that bind
