Carol Hofmeyer | Fish Hoek - Cape Town | Ceramics, Painting, Embroidery & Mixed-Media
Initially trained as a medical doctor, Carol Hofmeyr then studied printmaking at what is now the University of Johannesburg.
She moved to the village of Hamburg in the Eastern Cape and founded the Keiskamma Art Project. For 20 years, she worked alongside the women — and some men — of three rural villages, creating major works that explored illness, death, restoration, and resurrection.
Since 2020, Carol has been trying to find her way back to making personal artworks, and Open Studios Fish Hoek offered her the first opportunity to show this body of work.
Her themes continue to reflect on the natural world - its fragility and vulnerability - as well as human pain and suffering, and the hope and restoration beyond that.
Mediums & Methods
Carol works in ceramics, painting, embroidery, and mixed media, blending craft and fine art to explore complex emotional and ecological themes.
