Laura Cooke | Fish Hoek – Cape Town | Painter | Mixed Media Artist

Laura Cooke is a Cape Town-based painter and mixed media artist. She holds a Bachelor of Journalism, specialising in Photojournalism, from Rhodes University. Alongside a senior career in media and communications, Laura has developed her artistic practice over several years through independent exploration, workshops and retreats, as well as several years working with Creative Space Clovelly. 

Working across painting and mixed media, her practice reflects a strong visual sensibility and an evolving exploration of landscape, memory and place. She is particularly drawn to the mountains, coastline and indigenous vegetation of the Cape Peninsula, Cederberg and the Karoo, interpreting these familiar environments through expressive colour, layered surfaces and loose mark-making.

Her work moves between observation and abstraction, using landscape as a starting point rather than a fixed destination. Through this process, Laura seeks to capture not only the physical qualities of a place, but also its atmosphere, energy and emotional resonance.
